Mr. Afkari focuses on M&A, Chapter 11 reorganizations, out-of-court restructurings, and corporate finance transactions for a range of public and private global clients. He has successfully represented management teams, boards of directors, private equity investors, commercial banks, unsecured creditors, bondholders, and non-bank lenders, specializing in designing and executing solutions for turnaround, distressed, and special situations.

During the last five years, Mr. Afkari has performed complex financial restructuring, M&A, and financial advisory services on both the buy-side and sell-side. As a principal investor, he has sourced, evaluated, and executed add-on acquisitions, recapitalizations, divestitures, and leveraged lending solutions for middle-market and multinational portfolio companies. As a trusted investment banker and restructuring advisor, he has conducted financial due diligence and run sale processes for complex domestic and cross-border M&A transactions and financial restructurings.

Prior to joining Carl Marks, Mr. Afkari served as an Analyst at the Single Family Office of the Farid Family, where he focused on the analysis and execution of healthy and distressed investment opportunities and the strategic planning of existing portfolio companies such as the 1,200-unit global franchise Edible Arrangements. Before that, he served as an Investment Banking Analyst at FT Partners in San Francisco.

Mr. Afkari holds a BS in Finance and Art History from NYU’s Stern School of Business.
